


Info as of 2015 Gene's full name is Hansford Eugene Bowen. Four days after high school graduation Gene was on a train headed for the Great Lakes Naval Center in IL. He spent more than twenty years in the Navy on various Naval air stations and aircraft carriers. He ran into Skip Boyd while in Meridian. He retired from the Navy in 1987 and settled in Milton, FL, where he still lives. He sold vacuum cleaners for a short time and then got a job as a Quality Assurance Representative for Aviator Equipment with Raytheon. His job was conducting maintenance and support for the TH057 helicopter and the T-34C aircraft. He was involved with the transition from the T-34 aircraft to the new T-6B training aircraft - the only turbo prop powered training aircraft with ejection seats. He retired in 2014.
Early in his career, Gene met and married his wife, Linda. They had two daughters, Michelle and Brandi, and one granddaughter - who is a junior at the University of West Florida majoring in mechanical engineering. Linda passed away in 2004. Gene was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, making him a 9-year survivor.
Gene enjoys spending time with his family, taking road trips and putting together model cars.
