Hazel's Obituary:
Hazel I. Economides, 65, of Olathe, KS passed away Thursday Sept. 20, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center following a long illness.
Hazel was born on May 21, 1947 in Allen County, KS to Robert E. and Rosalie G. Henderson. She was a 1965 graduate of Garnett High School and in 1970 she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kansas. Hazel worked for more than two decades as a social worker for the state of Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her son John R. Economides, 40, of San Francisco, CA.
Burial was in the Colony, KS cemetery.
Email from Mark Womelduff:
Ronnie Wolken, Merle Wittman, Larry Caldwell, Jan Brechesien, Terry Cain and I went to Hazel's funeral. Very nice. She was very loved. . . She is now out of pain, and in a better place.
Email from Charles Denchfield:
Hazel and I were neighbors and grew up together. I think she was my first girl friend at the ripe old age of about four. John Walter, Hazel and I rode to GHS with her mother each morning our first couple of years in GHS.
Her Mother, Rosalie, taught at the elementary. Some of you probably had her for a teacher. Hazel was one of those truly "good people" and will be missed.
Note from Harold in 2024: I keep a little bit in touch with John Economides (Hazel's son) as I knew him as a young man. John is a researcher at UC San Francisco. He has just had his 21year anniversary there. He is a Kansas University graduate. He got his Ph.D. from UTMB in Neuroscience.
