Afternoon on a Hill

(Edna St. Vincent Millay)

I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.

I will look at cliffs and clouds
With quiet eyes,
Watch the wind bow down the grass,
And the grass rise.

And when the lights begin to show
Up from the town,
I will mark which must be mine,
And then start down.

The Gift of Day

(author unknown)

Every day's a perfect gift
Of time for us to use.
Hours waiting to be filled
in any way we choose.
Each morning brings
a quiet hope
That rises with the sun.
Each evening brings
the sweet content
that comes with work well done.

Quotes

Today

(author unknown)

Today is mine. It is unique.
Nobody in the world has one exactly like it.
It holds the sum of all my past experiences and all my future potentials.
I can fill it with joyous moments or ruin it with fruitless worry.
If painful recollections of the past come into my mind,
or frightening thoughts of the future, I can put them away.
They cannot spoil today for me.

Today

(author unknown)

Yesterday is just a memory.
Tomorrow we may never see.
There's beauty all around us,
life can be so pleasant.
Today is like a gift
That's why it's called the present.

Today is a Gift

Yesterday is history,
Tomorrow is a mystery,
Today is a gift,
That's why it's called the present.

Monday's Child

(author unknown)

Monday's child is fair of face;
Tuesday's child is full of grace;
Wednesday's child is on the go;
Thursday's child is a joy to know.
Friday's child is loving and giving;
Saturday's child takes joy in living;
but the child that is born on the Sabbath day
is merry and blithe and bright and gay.

Monday's Child - original version

(author unknown)

Monday's child is fair of face;
Tuesday's child is full of grace;
Wednesday's child is full of woe;
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving;
Saturday's child works hard for its living;
but the child that is born on the Sabbath day
is fair and wise and good and gay.

The poem was was altered to be more positive. I see why they changed Wednesday and Saturday but I don't understand about Thursday. It doesn't seem like a bad thing to "have far to go".

Thursday's Child Page Idea

Use the wavy borderline to draw three lines all the way around the pages (the two outside lines are solid and center one is dashed so that it looks like a road). You may need to adjust things a little so the corners line up. Arrange various stickers from the vehicle stickers along the road. Use the title "Thursday's child has far to go". (Dona C. CMC)

Friday the 13th

Dean Farnell)

If a little black cat has crossed your path
you better not drive your car too fast.
You'll have to watch your step all day
as superstition finds a way.
Don't dare to pick your mirror up
you're risking seven years bad luck.
Don't spill your salt at lunch today
as superstition finds a way.
Don't put new shoes on you table
umbrellas indoors can prove fatal.
This could be your final day
if superstition gets its way.
The days gone quick and you've survived
It's thanks to fate that your alive.
You've made it through to Saturday
Now Friday's just a memory.
