A Forever Friend

(author unknown)

Sometimes in life,
you find a special friend;
Someone who changes your life
just by being part of it.
Someone who makes you laugh
until you can't stop;
Someone who makes you believe
that there really is good in the world.
Someone who convinces you
that there really is an unlocked door
just waiting for you to open it.
This is Forever Friendship.

When you're down,
and the world seems dark and empty,
Your forever friend lifts you up in spirit
and makes that dark and empty world
suddenly seem bright and full.

Your forever friend gets you through
the hard times, the sad times,
and the confused times.
If you turn and walk away,
your forever friend follows.
If you lose your way,
your forever friend guides you
and cheers you on.

Your forever friend holds your hand
and tells you that
everything is going to be okay.
And if you find such a friend,
you feel happy and complete,
because you need not worry.
You have a forever friend for life,
and forever has no end.

Friendship

(Dinah Maria Mulock Craik)

Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person.
Having neither to weigh thoughts
Nor measure words, but pouring them
All right out--just as they are
Chaff and grain together--
Certain that a faithful hand will
Take and sift them,
Keeping what is worth keeping,
And with a breath of kindness
Blow the rest away.

True Friendship

(Dawn Nissen)

With you, it's all about voiceless communication-
always knowing exactly what to say,
but never actually having to say it.

When no one seems to be listening, you hear.
When I hurt but don't show it, you know.
When I turn away to hide my tears, you see.
When I feel like I can't get through to anyone, you understand.

Your eyes glow just for me,
and I know you're proud.
You flash your magical, healing smile my way,
and I know everything will be all right.

You know everything there is to know about me.
You know what worries me,
what keeps me up at night,
and what shames me so badly
that I can't share it with anyone.
Most importantly, though,
none of those things bother you.

You've restored my faith in people
and proved that there is a thing
called true friendship.

Letter to My Best Friend

(author unknown)

I like you.
I like you a whole lot.
I like you because
When something matters to me,
It matters to you, too.
When you have a good idea,
You tell me first--
When I do, I tell you first.
That's why we make such a great team.
I like you because
When I say something funny, you laugh,
And when I'm not my usual self,
You notice right away
And ask me, "What's wrong?"
You're there for me and I'm there for you.
That's what friends are for.
I like you because . . . I just do.
When somebody asks me who my best friend is,
I say, "You." And you say, "Me."
And fifty years from now,
We'll say the same thing.
That's the way it is and will always be--
You can count on it!

Thinking of You

(Adrian Rogers)

When you read these words,
chances are I'll be sitting here
thinking of you
as I so often do.

I'll probably be smiling
one of those smiles
that I always do
when thoughts of you come my way.

When you read these few words,
I hope you'll think,
just for a moment,
how much you mean to me,
and how much you always will.

And when you continue on with things
you need to be doing in your day,
smile a smile for me, and remember
that I'll be thinking of you still.

My Friend...

(author unknown)

You are the most significant person
in my life right now. You are my dearest friend,
the one person I can be open and honest with,
the person who knows me better than I know myself,
with no pretense, and I am accepted by you;
I know who you are, and you know who I am, and we
are able to love one another completely.

We aren't always able to spend as much time together
as we'd like, but when we are together, it's as if we
had never been apart. Being with you makes me laugh,
and it gives me a safe place to cry. You are
sensitive and bright and altogether beautiful.
I love you for being the wonderful person that
you are and for the beauty you bring into my life
just by being there. I love you for listening to
all my troubles and for sharing yours with me.

I love you for your acceptance of me even when you
don't agree with my actions or decisions.
I love you for the fun we have together and the
openness that characterizes our relationship.
I love you most of all for being a wonderful person
and the best friend anyone could be.

A True Friend

(author unknown)

You're a true friend,
that I want you to know,
Our love for each other
has helped us to grow.

We've had some rough times,
but we made it through,
The only one I ever
completely trusted was you.

You helped me through anger,
you've chased away fears.
You held me through sadness,
and kissed away tears.

You stayed by my side
when the world turned away.
You helped me see joy
when the skies were all gray.

You were the rainbow
at the end of the storm.
You help me be different
when I shouldn't conform.

You held my hand
when you knew we would fall.
Every heartache,
you saw me through it all.

I'm not sure
I'm always the best friend to you,
I know I'm not perfect,
but this much is true.

When life gets you down,
And there's nowhere to turn,
I'll help you through and
I'll share your concern.

I'll try hard to return every favor,
When you're sure that you'll drown,
then I'll be your lifesaver;
Even if we both go down.

Whether we sink or swim
doesn't matter at all,
Just know that I'll be there
whenever you call.

I'll pull you out
when life pulls you under.
I'll be the sun
when there's lightning and thunder.

And when it's all over,
And we've fought every war,
There's one thing I promise,
Of this I am sure,

When the time comes
that we're put to our rest.
Be sure that you know that,
My friend, you're the best.

The Light

(author unknown)

I've seen the light
and it's in you.
In everything you are
and in everything you do.

It's a perfect light
that shines for all to see.
It radiates from you
and has pierced the heart of me.

The light is from a friend.
It's a light that keeps me warm.
It lets me know how loved I am
and keeps me safe from harm.

To you my friend I am thankful
in each and every way.
For you lift my spirits up
with every passing day.

To know that you are there for me
it makes me feel alive.
Because it is your friendships light
upon which my love thrives.

Though 'thank you' isn't good enough
they are the only words I know.
It is your light of friendship
That give my world its glow.

Love

(Roy Croft)

I love you,
Not only for what you are,
But for what I am
When I am with you.

I love you,
Not only for what
You have made of yourself,
But for what
You are making of me.

I love you
For the part of me
That you bring out;
I love you
For putting your hand
Into my heaped-up heart
And passing over
All the foolish, weak things
That you can't help
Dimly seeing there,
And for drawing out
Into the light
All the beautiful belongings
That no one else had looked
Quite far enough to find.

I love you because you
Are helping me to make
Of the lumber of my life
Not a tavern
But a temple;
Out of the works
Of my every day
Not a reproach
But a song.

I love you
Because you have done
More than any creed
Could have done
To make me good,
And more than any fate
Could have done
To make me happy.

You have done it
Without a touch,
Without a word,
Without a sign.
You have done it
By being yourself.
Perhaps that is what
Being a friend means,
After all.

Christmas Wish for a Best Friend

(author unknown)

I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me.
I'd like to be the help that you've been always glad to be.
I'd like to mean as much to you each minute of the day,
as you have meant, old friend of mine, to me along the way.

I'd like to do the big things and the splendid things for you,
to brush the gray from out of your skies and leave them only blue.
I'd like to say the kindly things that I so often have heard,
and feel that I could rouse your soul the way that mine you've stirred.

I'd like to give you back the joy that you have given me,
so that sunshine on your horizon is all that you will see.
I'd like to make you feel as rich as I, who travel on,
undaunted in the darkest hours, with you to lean upon.

I'm wishing at this Christmas time that I could but repay
a portion of the gladness that you've strewn along my way.
And could I have one wish this year, this only would it be,
I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me.

Special to Me

(author unknown)

You're always oh so good to me,
You are all a friend should be,
And that's why you're especially
Special in my heart, you see!

I hope that there will always be
Me and you, you and me--
And that's why I'm especially
Letting you know you're special to me!

A Miracle to Me

(author unknown)

As long as the ocean is wide
Across the miles of sea,
You will be someone special,
A true miracle to me.

As long as mountains are high,
As high as one can climb,
You will be so dear to me,
The best friend I can find.

As long as stars still twinkle
Throughout the heavens above,
You will be my bright reminder
Of what it means to love.

True Friends

(author unknown)

In a friendship
We're free to expose,
Parts of ourselves
Nobody else knows
But the thing that sustains it
And sets it apart

Is not something spoken
It's a bond of the heart
True friend's are rare
In a lifetime two or three,
I'm so glad it happened . . .
Between you and me!

Your Best Friend

(author unknown)

I'm going to be the best friend you ever had.
I'm going to listen to you like no one has
Even if I might be too busy.
I'm going to be there when it counts
Not this time, but every time you need it.

I'm going to be your buddy, lifting you up
Whether I have the strength to or not.
I'm going to treat you like it's your birthday
Not that day, but every single day of the year.

I'll listen to you, I'll offer you advice
I'll play with you, sometimes letting you win
I'll be there for you, when you're filled up with strife
I'll pray for you, when you're struggling in life.

I'm going to be the best friend you've ever had.
This day, the next and forever . . . Why?

Because that's the kind of friend you are for me!

A Friend is...

(author unknown)

A friend is someone with whom your
thoughts, dreams, and secrets you can share.
And no matter what you say or do,
you know that they still care.

A friend is always ready to laugh
with you when you are glad
But has a shoulder for you to cry on,
at those times when you are sad.

A friend always wants the very best for you
And they are not happy until you are too.
A friend is never jealous
of the things you may attain
And if you are the winner
you won't hear them complain

A friend is a person who you could
spend everyday with,
from beginning to end
When you find someone like this
they are more than a friend
they are a Best Friend

The Friendship Flower

(author unknown)

I'd like to tell a story
Of a flower that I found.
It can't be seen with human eyes
and it grows not in the ground.

Its stem is strength and kindness,
And honesty its leaves.
Its brightly colored petals
are the faith in its beliefs.

Its scent hints of forgiveness,
and peacefulness and love.
Its beauty brings more happiness
Than my heart could once dream of.

At first I fed this flower
half-truths, deceit and lies,
And any other flower
would certainly have died.

But this flower's roots run deeply
so they can't be torn apart.
And I'll be forever thankful
You're the flower in my heart.

Bonds of Friendship

(author unknown)

When days are filled with sunshine
How close we hold a friend;
it's good to share the laughter,
the dreams that have no end.

And it is fun exchanging
some episode of fun
and finding much in common,
in all that you have done.

But when the days are shadowed,
Perhaps with pain or grief,
The Bonds of Friendship tighten,
almost beyond belief.

And burdens aren't so heavy,
when someone takes your hand:
And not a word is needed,
to prove she understands.

The world would be so lonely,
in sunny hours or grey,
Without the gift of friendship,
to help us, every day.

Sand or Stone

(author unknown)

Two friends were walking through the desert. At some point they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:
"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE."
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to go for a swim. The one who had been slapped started to drown, but his friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:
"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE."
The one who had first slapped and later saved his friend said, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?"
His friend replied: "When a friend hurts us we should write it down in sand where the winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when a friend does something good for us, we should engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

Real Friends

(author unknown)

In kindergarten your idea of a good friend was the person who let you have the red crayon when all that was left was the ugly black one.

In first grade your idea of a good friend was the person who went to the bathroom with you and held your hand as you walked through the scary halls.

In second grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you stand up to the class bully.

In third grade your idea of a good friend was the person who shared their lunch with you when you forgot yours on the bus.

In fourth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who was willing to switch square dancing partners in gym so you wouldn't have to be stuck do-si-do-ing with Icky Nick.

In fifth grade your idea of a friend was the person who saved you a seat at the back of the bus.

In sixth grade your idea of a friend was the person who went up to Nick, your new crush, and asked him to dance with you, so that if he said no you wouldn't have to be embarrassed.

In seventh grade your idea of a friend was the person who let you copy the social studies homework from the night before.

In eighth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pack up your stuffed animals, but didn't laugh at you when you finished and broke into tears.

In ninth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who would go to a party thrown by a senior so you wouldn't wind up being the only freshman there.

In tenth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who changed their schedule so you would have someone to sit with at lunch.

In eleventh grade your idea of a good friend was the person who gave you rides in her new car, convinced your parents that you shouldn't be grounded, consoled you when you broke up with Nick, and found you a date to the prom.

In twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pick out a college and helped you deal with your parents, who were having a hard time adjusting to the idea of letting you go.

At graduation your idea of a good friend was the person who was crying on the inside, but managed the biggest smile one could give as they congratulated you.

The summer after twelfth grade your idea of a good friend was the person who helped you pack up for college, and silently hugged you as you looked through blurry eyes at eighteen years of memories you were leaving behind, and on those last days of childhood, sent you off to college knowing you were loved.

Now your idea of a good friend is still the person:
who gives you the better of the two choices,
holds your hand when you're scared,
helps you fight off those who try to take advantage of you,
thinks of you at times when you are not there,
reminds you of what you have forgotten,
helps you put the past behind you,
but understands when you need to hold on to it a little longer,
stays with you so that you have confidence,
goes out of their way to make time for you,
helps you clear up your mistakes,
helps you deal with pressure from others,
smiles for you when they are sad,
helps you become a better person, and,
most importantly, loves you!
